A New Year

It's amazing how quickly life can change. One minute you're a happy little family heading out to the Oregon coast after a fabulous Christmas (your daughter's first) and the next minute you're the people you hear about on the news who were in a head on car accident with a drunk driver. It's true that experiencing the biggest nightmare of our lives has and will continue to put things in perspective. Our family and friends have jumped into action in a way we never could have imagined. Even perfect strangers have shown generosity and support. Probably because something like this hits so close to home. It could have been anyone but it was us.

Thank you to everyone for your thoughts, prayers, generosity, kind words, love and support. Now that Dave is home we can all begin the healing process and start putting our lives back together piece by piece. It will be a long process but we're trying to remain positive that we will put it back together and someday get things "back to normal" - whatever that means. I guess normal at this point would be two parents who can care for their own child without help from others and two people who can keep living life the way they always have. We'll get there.

I will try to keep in touch in coming weeks and let you know about Dave's recovery process but if you don't hear from me it's because we really are trying to heal as a family. We're tired and frustrated and the fight has only just begun. We have piles of paperwork and lots of frustrating conversations with insurance companies ahead. They don't make it easy for a reason.

We are so thankful for our community! We love you all very much. May 2010 be a wonderful year for all of us and may none of our loved ones ever have to go through this experience themselves.

Love you guys. We're really glad that you're all safe and home. Please let us know if there's anything we can do.
Wow, Linds...how horrible. I hope the healing happens faster than you expect and am so glad that you are all okay. It sounds like you are surrounded by wonderful friends and family pitching in to help.

We recently had family photos taken in the Columbia Gorge by a wonderful couple who travel around the world with their two kids taking pictures. I just love how they turned out!

Manzanita and more...

Since my last post, a lot has happened in our household.  We took our first camping trip of the year to Silver Falls State Park and survived!  Cora even got to try smores for the first time.   Edie turned 1 on June 4th and just a few weeks before took her first ambulance rider to the ER due to an infection - ugh!  She's fine now...thankfully. We figure it's our first of many trips to the ER with two very busy little girls.  (On a side note, Cora thought riding in the ambulance was really fun!) I came down with a ridiculous case of Poison Oak that was awful for about three weeks and continues to haunt me.  It seems I'm quite allergic!  Thankfully, no one else got it.  Dave drove himself to the ER in the middle of the night for an emergency appendicectomy that ended up being (and still is) more complicated than normal because of the scar tissue left in his stomach from the car accident.  That was a few weeks ago and his...
