Torres del Paine National Park, Chile

This place is off the charts! Typically, when people talk about Patagonia, they´re talking about a few of the national parks down here. We just drank in one of the classics. Some believe one of the best hikes on earth. 9 days, 8 nights, 98 miles, 12 pounds of salami and cheese, and 10 bags of pasta later.... we completed a trek of the entire Torres del Paine National Park. The scenery we saw along the way was varied and elaborate - glaciers, jagged peaks, thick forests, snow-capped mountains, roaring rivers, glacial lakes, ice bergs and more. Truly a life changing trip. Along the way, we battled mosquitos, intense wind, rain, sore feet, an awful cold for Lindsay and some very unappealing bathrooms. As you can see from one of the photos, (no doctoring needed) the weather was as unpredictable as the next turn of the trail. But there were also some moments of luxury with hot showers and hot meals to balance it out. Some folks do what´s called the ¨W¨ while some folks do the longer ¨Circuit.¨ Of course, Brent and I decided we should do the longest trek available, called the ¨Q.¨ This is the entire Circuit surrounding the park with an added approach trek. This portion of the trek really gives you the feeling of walking out of the wind blown prarie into this amazing mountainscape... a ceremonial entrance into wilderness beyond imagination. Goosebumps as I write this!!!

(Busse, I know you´re a little busy with a new son right now, but you gotta get your tail down here. We´ll discuss soon.)

Needless to say, we are thoroughly enjoying a day of rest in Puerto Natales before we head North. Our celebratory dinner included our new friends from Canada, Australia, Scotland and the United States (Oregonians, actually!)... making the trip all the more unforgettable.

We are so jealous of you guys. Here we are sitting around in the rain watching Jamie's belly grow. But in three weeks we'll have a kid. What do you have to show from your trip so far, huh? We'll have to get together when you get back and compare photo albums. It is like deja vu looking at your blog. Check our out to see pics of Jamie's baby mountain and from our trip down south as well. Sounds like your having a nice trip so far. Good luck for your next months.

We recently had family photos taken in the Columbia Gorge by a wonderful couple who travel around the world with their two kids taking pictures. I just love how they turned out!

Manzanita and more...

Since my last post, a lot has happened in our household.  We took our first camping trip of the year to Silver Falls State Park and survived!  Cora even got to try smores for the first time.   Edie turned 1 on June 4th and just a few weeks before took her first ambulance rider to the ER due to an infection - ugh!  She's fine now...thankfully. We figure it's our first of many trips to the ER with two very busy little girls.  (On a side note, Cora thought riding in the ambulance was really fun!) I came down with a ridiculous case of Poison Oak that was awful for about three weeks and continues to haunt me.  It seems I'm quite allergic!  Thankfully, no one else got it.  Dave drove himself to the ER in the middle of the night for an emergency appendicectomy that ended up being (and still is) more complicated than normal because of the scar tissue left in his stomach from the car accident.  That was a few weeks ago and his...
