Portland Shamrock 5k

While Dave was busy studying for finals, Cora and I decided to get out in the rain for the annual Shamrock Run (or in our case, WALK). 30,000 people participated in this event wearing all sorts of crazy outfits. A very Portland event, indeed!
We survived but were completely soaked when it was all over. Cora was a rock star and actually slept most of the race, thankfully. She's a true Oregon girl because the rain didn't even phase her....but maybe that was because I was giving her special treats like gummy bears all morning!

Cora and the boys

Dave's friends, Scotty, Ryan and Danny, have been taking good care of us this week. We're thinking about asking them to move in long-term! Ryan is currently making us a fancy breakfast and Danny is still trying to find us the perfect Subaru Forrester to purchase.

Salar de Uyuni Tour

Southeast Bolivia is home to the world´s largest salt flats. This amounts to huge expanses of flat land surrounded by snow capped mountains. Big lakes, super dry deserts, and llamas, alpacas and vicuñas everywhere. As you can see from the photos, there are a few interesting things going on here. First, and most notable, is the huge population of flamingos. There are three different species that summer in Bolivia and winter in Chile and Argentina. But what makes it even more interesting is that the salt flats are roughly 14-15,000 feet above sea level. We are way up here. That makes the hills and mountain surrounding the plains almost 20,000 feet. Mt. Everest is less than 30,000 feet. This is home to flamingos? Yep, lots of em.
