A Long Road to Bangkok

Well...after 18 hours of flying, a quick stop in the Tokyo airport (including some tasty ramen noodles and dumplings), 3 airplane meals (plus an ice cream sandwich and bottomless green tea), 4 movies, on-flight trivia and a few moments of sleep, we have finally arrived in Bangkok. It's 1:30am on Thursday here right now and we're about to crash in our simple little guest house in central Bangkok. Tomorrow, the adventure really begins.

We recently had family photos taken in the Columbia Gorge by a wonderful couple who travel around the world with their two kids taking pictures. I just love how they turned out!

Cora and the boys

Dave's friends, Scotty, Ryan and Danny, have been taking good care of us this week. We're thinking about asking them to move in long-term! Ryan is currently making us a fancy breakfast and Danny is still trying to find us the perfect Subaru Forrester to purchase.

Salar de Uyuni Tour

Southeast Bolivia is home to the world´s largest salt flats. This amounts to huge expanses of flat land surrounded by snow capped mountains. Big lakes, super dry deserts, and llamas, alpacas and vicuñas everywhere. As you can see from the photos, there are a few interesting things going on here. First, and most notable, is the huge population of flamingos. There are three different species that summer in Bolivia and winter in Chile and Argentina. But what makes it even more interesting is that the salt flats are roughly 14-15,000 feet above sea level. We are way up here. That makes the hills and mountain surrounding the plains almost 20,000 feet. Mt. Everest is less than 30,000 feet. This is home to flamingos? Yep, lots of em.
