The Adventures of Dave, Lindsay, Cora and Edie

Since it's been over 100 degrees in Portland the last few days, we decided to leave our hot house behind and head to the Oregon Coast. It was the best decision we've ever made as it was MUCH cooler out there and a perfect little getaway. Cora slept in the car, on the beach, in the sling and pretty much everywhere we went. When we got home, she took her first bath with mom and loved it.

Our first week with the little lady has flown by and we're amazed at how quickly the time passes just snuggling her and keeping her belly full. We've got quite a little sleeper on our hands and estimate she sleeps around 20 hours each day. At this point, she incredibly mellow but we know it probably won't last. Here is a glimpse at what Cora has done in her first week (besides eating, sleeping and getting her diaper changed): -First trip to the doctor's office for a follow-up visit. We learned that she's gaining weight and eating well so that's good news. -Had a newborn photo shoot and peed all over Dad -Survived an Oregon heat wave of 90 degree plus weather that is supposed to continue through this week (No, we do not have AC) -Greeted several visitors who have snuggled on her but only seen her eyelids -Spent an afternoon at G & G's down in Canby -Went to her first movie (Away We Go) and didn't make a sound -Went to sushi because after 9 months off,...

We welcomed Cora at 5:41pm on Saturday, July 18th after 12 hours of labor. Thanks to the help of our wonderful doula, Carissa, we were able to stay at home for the first 6 hours of labor. Our nurses and midwife at Kaiser Sunnyside were wonderful and helped Lindsay get through the labor and delivery drug-free. We came home today and are already lost in the world of poopy diapers, feeding and getting sleep when we can. Oh the thrill of sleep deprivation! We'll be in touch when we get our heads above water.

Less than two weeks until our due date so she could truly come at any time in the next 3 1/2 weeks. It's a little crazy to think about and we're trying to get all the last-minute details taken care of so we're ready to go. The nursery has come together and is almost done. I have a few more sewing projects to complete at some point. I'm working right up until she comes but next week is my last week in the office before I begin working from home. I'll be honest, I'm incredibly exhausted after a day of work but I'm determined to not use that paid time off until she's here. Look for a text message or email in coming weeks!

We planted a fabulous garden in our backyard this year and it's growing like crazy with all the sunshine we've been having. Tomatoes, lettuce, snap peas, onions, peppers, cucumbers and more. I don't think there is anything more satisfying than making a salad out of your own backyard! My belly is also growing these days with only three weeks left to go until our due date (although I'm thinking she's going to be late). I'm working until she arrives and when I have the energy, we're trying to get the nursery and everything else ready to go. Can you ever really be prepared for a new baby? The carseat is installed so at least we'll be able to get her home from the hospital. We'll keep you posted on her arrival...

Our friends and family have been kind enough to throw us a few baby showers in the last couple weeks. Dede and Brooke hosted a pre-baby BBQ for us in Seattle a few weekends ago and on Saturday we had another shower in Portland with two dear friends flying in from Kalispell for the occasion. Thanks for all the wonderful baby gear! We're going to start working on the nursery this weekend...
